Ron DeSantis Opens I-95 Interchange One Year Ahead of Schedule
Governor Ron DeSantis opened a $100 million I-95 interchange in Indian River County, completed a year early through a voluntary contractor acceleration program.
Governor Ron DeSantis announced the opening of the new Interstate 95 at Oslo Road interchange in Indian River County on October 5, 2026. The $100 million project is the first new I-95 interchange in the Treasure Coast area in nearly 50 years and was completed approximately 400 days ahead of schedule.
The project was executed through the Moving Florida Forward initiative. Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Jared Perdue attributed the early completion to a voluntary acceleration program, which allowed contractors to propose construction speed-ups in exchange for a share of the resulting savings.
Infrastructure improvements include widening Oslo Road from two to four lanes and adding sidewalks and bicycle lanes. State officials expect the interchange to cut commute times for Oslo Road drivers in half and reduce emergency response times by up to 56%. The project also improves freight movement for regional commercial nodes and established a gopher tortoise habitat, the only relocation site of its kind in southeast Florida.
