Adebayo Adelabu Withdraws From Oyo State Governorship Race

Former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu announced he will not challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary results in court and has withdrawn from the 2027 governorship race in Oyo State. In a statement released Thursday, Adelabu clarified that his exit followed a strategic reassessment and consultations with party leaders and supporters after a period abroad.

Adelabu claimed to possess documentary and video evidence of irregularities, stating that the absence of verifiable results raises serious questions about the transparency and integrity of nominations for governorship, senatorial, and legislative seats. He noted that the APC national chairman had already acknowledged errors, unfairness, and injustice during the process.

Despite these grievances, Adelabu stated his decision to avoid legal escalation is intended to preserve party stability and prevent further divisions ahead of the general elections. The APC has faced internal conflict over the emergence of Senator Sharafadeen Alli as the candidate, with some aspirants alleging the nomination was imposed. Adelabu urged the party's national leadership to lead reconciliation efforts to address widespread dissatisfaction among members.
