Opposition Parties Allege Election Rigging in Nagaland and Andhra Pradesh

The Congress party and YSRCP have accused election officials and ruling coalitions of manipulating voter lists and nomination processes in Nagaland and Andhra Pradesh.

Opposition parties in India are raising allegations of electoral fraud and systemic manipulation in two different states. In Nagaland, Pranav Shagotra, an All India Congress Committee observer, alleged that 38,234 voters were deleted or untraced across five districts. S. Supongmeren Jamir, president of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee, reported a larger discrepancy of 157,752 between the state's total electorate and enumeration forms. Shagotra accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of coordinating with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and demanded Kumar's removal.

The Election Commission of India denied intentional manipulation, and the Election Department is now planning house-to-house verification. The Congress party intends to expand its campaign against voter list irregularities at a rally in New Delhi on November 1.

Simultaneously in Andhra Pradesh, YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and the ruling coalition of rigging local body elections. Speaking in Amaravati, Jagan alleged that the government used official machinery to prevent opposition candidates from filing nomination papers, claiming TDP workers attacked women at check-posts to obstruct them. He argued that victories in 17 Urban Local Bodies and unanimous wins in 21 percent of wards are illegitimate because opponents were barred from contesting.
