Macao and Indonesia Sign 45 Cooperation Agreements in Jakarta

Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai and Indonesian officials signed 45 agreements to expand bilateral cooperation in investment, tourism, and health during a summit in Jakarta.

Sam Hou Fai, Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, led a delegation to Jakarta on September 2, 2026, to expand bilateral ties with Indonesia. During a government-hosted reception, Macao and Indonesian representatives signed nine cooperation agreements focusing on investment, tourism, conventions, exhibitions, and medicine and health.

The diplomatic visit coincided with a Macao economic, trade, tourism, and investment promotion conference in Jakarta. This broader event resulted in the signing of 36 additional cooperation projects, bringing the total to 45 agreements.

Sam Hou Fai described Macao as a gateway for China's high-level opening-up, noting that strengthening ties with Indonesia aligns with China's 15th Five-Year Plan and Macao's third five-year plan. Edi Prio Pambudi of the Indonesian Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs stated his hope that enterprises from both regions would further strengthen economic and people-to-people ties.
