Muslim Rights Concern Demands Release of Professor Bello Abubakar
Muslim Rights Concern demanded the immediate release of Professor Bello Abubakar after the ICPC arrested the physician over alleged false statements.
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) demanded that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) immediately and unconditionally release Professor Bello Abubakar. Abubakar, who serves as the personal physician to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, was arrested by the ICPC on Wednesday over alleged false statements.
In a statement issued Friday, MURIC Executive Director Professor Ishaq Akintola condemned the arrest as arbitrary and contrary to democratic principles. Akintola argued that the action violates global best practices and emphasized that medical personnel should be respected. He further warned that the physician could be coerced into violating professional ethics by releasing private patient information while in detention.
