Letitia James Urges New Yorkers to Use Mail Ballots
New York Attorney General Letitia James is urging residents to request mail-in ballots by October 24 for the November 3 general election.
New York Attorney General Letitia James is urging residents to utilize mail-in voting for the November 3 general election, asserting that the process is safe and secure. James emphasized that October 24 serves as both the deadline to request a mail ballot online or by mail and the start date for early voting.
To ensure ballots are counted, James recommends mailing them as early as possible or requesting a hand-stamped postmark at a post office due to variations in United States Postal Service timing. Ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and received by county Boards of Elections by November 10.
James noted that her office and a coalition successfully sued to block a federal rule that would have allowed the United States Postal Service to refuse delivery of certain mail ballots. The Supreme Court of the United States upheld this block and rejected efforts to require that mail ballots arrive by Election Day. To further assist voters, the Office of the Attorney General will operate an Election Protection Hotline from October 24 through November 4.
