Akhilesh Yadav Accuses BJP of Colluding With Election Commission
Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav accused the BJP of manipulating Legislative Council elections and colluding with the Election Commission to steal votes.
Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on October 22 of manipulating the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council elections for teachers' and graduates' constituencies. Yadav alleged the BJP violated the model code of conduct by pressuring government officials and educational institutions to influence the polls, characterizing the actions as a "democratic crime."
Later that day in Rampur, Yadav expanded his allegations, claiming the BJP is "directly colluding" with the Election Commission of India to steal votes. He asserted that the ruling party relies on corrupt officials and malpractice because its leaders lack knowledge and education. Yadav warned that officials involved in electoral malpractice would face jail time, stating that BJP leaders would not protect them during trials.
These accusations coincided with a visit by Yadav to party leader Azam Khan at a district jail. The two held detailed political discussions regarding seat-sharing and alliances for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. Yadav confirmed he has reviewed candidate lists provided by alliance partners as the Samajwadi Party and Congress prepare for the upcoming contest against the BJP.
