Stop the Race to Replace Humans Gathers 925,000 Signatures

The organization Stop the Race to Replace Humans has collected 925,471 signatures for a petition demanding a Pro-Human AI Declaration. The movement seeks to ensure artificial intelligence serves humanity and includes safety off-switches to prevent uncontrolled development.

The campaign gained momentum after Evan Hubinger, a researcher at Anthropic, estimated a greater than 10% chance that AI could wipe out humans within the next decade. Hubinger stated that Anthropic does not yet have a clear plan to solve alignment for superintelligence and is not clearly on track to do so.

Parallel to these warnings, Anthropic released its 2026 threat report covering the misuse of its Claude AI from December 2025 to September 2026. The report documented a Russian-linked espionage actor using the technology for attacks and the manipulation of political infrastructure in Malaysia through 1,000 fake X accounts. Additionally, the company identified an unnamed military institute that used the AI to request information on gain-of-function research regarding the chikungunya virus.
