White House Urges Congress to Reject GAIN AI Act

The White House is urging the U.S. Congress to reject the GAIN AI Act, a legislative measure embedded in a defense-spending package. The bill proposes restricting the export of advanced artificial intelligence chips to China and other adversary nations, requiring semiconductor companies to prioritize domestic supply needs before shipping high-end hardware abroad.

Administration officials argue that these restrictions would erode U.S. technological leadership and hamper innovation by driving foreign customers toward competitors. Nvidia Corporation has joined this opposition, lobbying against the bill on the grounds that it would disrupt global supply chains and undermine American competitiveness.

Conversely, the act has found support among major U.S. tech buyers. Amazon.com, Inc. and Microsoft Corporation have publicly backed the measure to ensure that domestic companies receive priority access to critical AI hardware to meet their own operational demands.
