Métis National Council Urges Canada to Include Métis in Tariff Strategy

The Métis National Council is urging the Government of Canada to adopt a "Team Canada" approach to counter new U.S. tariffs. The council argues that the federal government should integrate Métis workers, businesses, and governments into the national economic strategy, focusing specifically on trade diversification, federal procurement, and domestic supply chains.

President Victoria Pruden stated that the Métis Nation is not simply seeking protection from the trade dispute but is ready to be an active part of the response. The council positions Métis participation as a competitive advantage, citing the Métis economy's growth from approximately $21 billion in GDP in 2015 to $25.4 billion in business revenue by 2020.

The council is calling on the Treasury Board of Canada to ensure that the Métis Nation is included in the development of these economic measures to mitigate the impact of the tariffs.
