National Australia Bank to Pilot Agentic AI Platforms

National Australia Bank is launching a year-long pilot to test security guardrails for AI agents intended to interact with staff and systems on behalf of customers.

National Australia Bank is preparing a year-long series of pilots and experiments to test the security and operational guardrails of an agentic artificial intelligence platform. The bank aims to determine how AI agents can safely interact with internal systems and staff to execute tasks on behalf of customers.

Patrick Wright, the group executive for technology and enterprise operations, noted that the bank already utilizes agentic AI for internal operations to accelerate complex tasks. However, the focus for future customer-facing deployment remains on ensuring safety and reducing unforeseen errors.

This initiative follows a broader trend among Australia's largest lenders. The Commonwealth Bank of Australia has already implemented agentic systems to enhance security patching and write fraud rules.
