AIIB Aims to Double Annual Financing to $20 Billion by 2030

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank plans to double its annual approved financing to $20 billion by 2030 to support sustainable infrastructure and climate resilience.

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) announced a goal to double its annual approved financing to approximately 20 billion U.S. dollars by 2030. President Zou Jiayi unveiled the target during the bank's 11th annual meeting of the Board of Governors in Doha, Qatar, held under the theme "Tomorrow's Infrastructure: Impact and Innovation."

Zou stated that member economies have expressed a consistent need for increased funding to support development. The bank will prioritize sustainable infrastructure, specifically focusing on climate resilience, renewable energy, digital transformation, nature conservation, and transport corridors. To reach this target, the AIIB intends to utilize innovative financing tools, mobilize private capital, and deepen partnerships between governments and the private sector.

Since its inception in 2016, the bank's membership has expanded to 111 countries with over 400 approved projects, including recent initiatives in South Africa, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Fiji. Qatar's Minister of Finance, Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, who serves as the Chair of the Board of Governors, reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of Qatar to multilateral cooperation and sustainable infrastructure development during the gathering.
