Jera Expands Global LNG Exports via New Subsidiary
Jera is shifting its strategy to export excess liquefied natural gas to global markets through its new subsidiary, Jera Global Energy Solutions.
Jera, Japan's largest power producer, is pivoting its business strategy to expand long-term liquefied natural gas exports to global markets. The company launched a subsidiary, Jera Global Energy Solutions, to manage its long-term portfolio and establish demand outlets for periods when domestic consumption in Japan is low.
This strategic shift allows Jera to offload excess supply while helping other Asian nations secure alternative fuel sources to avoid risks from Middle East conflicts and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. As part of this expansion, Jera secured a 10-year agreement to deliver four annual LNG cargoes to India's Torrent Power beginning in 2027.
To support this growth, Jera plans to increase its long-term procurement from the U.S. Gulf Coast to 30% by 2030 and charter additional LNG carriers. Chairman and Global CEO Yukio Kani confirmed the availability of extra cargoes for other Asian countries, while Jera Global Energy Solutions CEO Irtiza Sayyed noted a renewed focus in the area.
