Vietnam Prime Minister Visits Laos and Cambodia to Boost Ties
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung is visiting Laos and Cambodia to strengthen economic cooperation, security, and infrastructure connectivity through high-level diplomatic talks.
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung led a high-ranking delegation from Hanoi on October 8 for his first official visits to Laos and Cambodia. Accompanied by the ministers of defense, public security, and foreign affairs, Hung aims to implement the foreign policy of the 14th National Party Congress and deepen strategic cohesion with neighboring states.
In Vientiane, Hung met with Lao Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith on October 8. The leaders signed 11 cooperation documents covering energy, finance, and education, and launched the Laos-Vietnam Friendship University project. Vietnam pledged 2 million USD to construct schools in Huaphan and Champasak provinces. The two nations agreed to target an annual trade volume of 5 billion USD, with a long-term goal of 10 billion USD, while prioritizing cooperation on cybersecurity and transnational crime.
Hung's itinerary continues with a visit to Cambodia from October 9 to 10 at the invitation of Prime Minister Hun Manet. Vietnam seeks to reach a bilateral trade target of 20 billion USD with Cambodia. These diplomatic missions serve as preparation for 2027 anniversaries, including the 65th year of diplomatic relations and the 50th year of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation with Laos.
