European Stocks Steady as Iran Negotiates Hormuz Shipping Lanes

European markets remained stable Monday while Iran negotiated new shipping lanes with Oman amid ongoing tensions with the United States over the Strait of Hormuz.

European stocks held steady on Monday, with the pan-European STOXX 600 remaining at 660.12 points following a record high close on Friday. Investors are currently monitoring geopolitical risks in the Strait of Hormuz and awaiting euro zone employment data and U.S. consumer price figures to determine future interest rate trajectories.

The Government of Iran stated it is nearing a final pact with the Government of Oman to define new shipping lanes. However, Iranian officials maintained that the United States must meet specific conditions before the strategic waterway fully reopens. This continued limitation on shipping caused Brent crude futures to rise 0.6% to $83.98 a barrel.

In corporate news, Caledonia Mining Corporation reported a 16% increase in second-quarter profit for its Zimbabwe-focused gold mining operations.
