Francesca Hong Loses Wisconsin Governor Primary After Thanksgiving Comments

Democratic socialist state lawmaker Francesca Hong narrowly lost the Democratic primary for governor of Wisconsin to opponent David Crowley. The election outcome followed the resurfacing of a six-year-old, now-deleted post on X in which Hong called to "Cancel Thanksgiving," arguing the holiday glorified colonialism.

The comments drew sharp criticism from Republicans, including Senator Ted Cruz, and the National Review, which labeled Hong the "Grinch of all holidays." Even progressive figures like Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez distanced themselves from the rhetoric, describing it as outdated "Woke 1.0."

Hong attempted to walk back the statements, admitting she had "some bad takes" while maintaining that the holiday remains painful for many in their communities.
