Michelle Gill Petitions UK Government to Lower Pension Age

Michelle Gill launched a petition calling on the United Kingdom government to lower the State Pension age to 65 for all citizens. The initiative argues that a lower retirement age would allow individuals to retire with dignity and avoid financial hardship, while simultaneously freeing up jobs for younger workers entering the labor market.

Gill highlights that citizens aged 65 to 67 frequently encounter poor health, caring pressures, and limited employment options. The current State Pension age is 66, with a scheduled increase to 67 between April 2026 and April 2028, and a further planned rise to 68 between 2044 and 2046.

The petition remains open until March 16, 2027. Under parliamentary rules, the government must provide a response if the petition reaches 10,000 signatures and will consider the matter for a parliamentary debate if signatures reach 100,000.
