Travel Experts Urge Immediate Holiday Flight Bookings Amid Fuel Surges

Travel experts are urging consumers to book holiday flights immediately to avoid further price hikes driven by surging jet fuel, diesel, and gasoline costs. Airfares for the upcoming holiday season have already seen significant year-over-year increases, with Thanksgiving flights rising 9% to 13% and Christmas flights increasing by 18% to 20%.

Clint Henderson, managing editor of The Points Guy, stated that traditional booking timelines no longer apply this year. He noted that while travelers typically have until October to secure holiday travel, the current weekly surge in fuel costs necessitates immediate action to lock in lower rates.

To mitigate these expenses, travelers are encouraged to remain flexible with their departure and return dates. Shifting a trip by a few days can save hundreds of dollars, and flying on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Saturdays generally offers lower rates due to a decrease in business travel volume.
