China-Egypt TEDA Suez Zone Attracts $4.7 Billion Investment

The China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone has created over 10,000 jobs and attracted $4.7 billion in investment since 2008.

The China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone has transformed a desert region along Egypt's Red Sea coast into a major industrial hub. Since construction began in 2008, the zone has attracted over $4.7 billion in cumulative investment and hosts more than 200 companies, generating over $7.3 billion in sales.

The hub focuses on manufacturing battery-storage systems, photovoltaic modules, tires, and optical fiber. Key production bases include Jushi Egypt, Africa's largest fiberglass production base, and Xinxing Ductile Iron Pipes, both of which export to Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. The project serves as a practical example of cooperation between China and Egypt under the Belt and Road Initiative.

Beyond infrastructure, the collaboration emphasizes talent development and technology transfer, creating over 10,000 direct jobs with a local employee ratio exceeding 90 percent. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly described the zone as a successful model of bilateral investment.

Future developments for the zone include the establishment of a China-supported vocational training center, the implementation of digital customs, and a strategic shift toward low-carbon industries.
