Romanian Naval Forces Lead FNR 26.10 Exercise for Navy Day

The Romanian Naval Forces celebrated Romanian Navy Day on August 15, 2026, centering festivities in Constanta with the FNR 26.10 joint and interinstitutional naval exercise. More than 3,500 Romanian and foreign military personnel participated, deploying over 50 ships and 15 aircraft to conduct training in mine countermeasures, anti-submarine warfare, air defense, and search-and-rescue operations.

The exercise marked the operational debut of the corvette Contraamiral August Roman - 261 and the M 271 Căpitan Constantin Dumitrescu minehunter. International support included vessels from the Turkish Navy and Coast Guard, a Bulgarian Coast Guard vessel, Spanish Air Force F/A-18 Hornet fighter jets, and a French Navy Atlantique 2 maritime patrol aircraft. While the primary military ceremony and a laser and light show took place in Constanta, celebrations were also held in Mangalia, Brăila, Tulcea, Galați, and Bucharest.

Simultaneously, the Romanian Navy's training ship Mircea docked in Lisbon, Portugal, on August 15 as part of a five-month international voyage that began in April. Under the command of Captain Silviu-Marius Moraru and Transatlantic Voyage Commander Gabriel Moise, the crew held meetings with Portuguese naval counterparts and attended events organized by the Romanian Embassy in Lisbon. The vessel is scheduled to return to its homeport in Constanta in September.
