Canada Announces Major Upgrades to Pointe-Verte Small Craft Harbour

The Government of Canada is reconstructing the Pointe-Verte Small Craft Harbour as part of a $1 billion national initiative to modernize coastal infrastructure.

The Government of Canada announced a major construction project at the Pointe-Verte Small Craft Harbour in northern New Brunswick to enhance safety, reliability, and climate resilience. The project involves reconstructing the existing slipway, installing new floating docks, and performing advanced planning and rock-over for four wharf structures.

This initiative is part of a broader federal commitment from the 2026 Spring Economic Update to invest nearly $1 billion over five years to modernize small craft harbours across the country. The Pointe-Verte harbour serves as a homeport for roughly 16 commercial fishing vessels specializing in lobster, halibut, and mackerel bait, with 2024 landings valued at more than $2.7 million.

Member of Parliament Serge Cormier announced the project and provided status updates on other regional construction works in Sainte-Marie-sur-Mer, Grande-Anse, Le Goulet, and Miller Brook. Minister of Fisheries Joanne Thompson authorized the investment, noting that such harbours are critical infrastructure for local economies.
