IRGC Targets Tankers as Indian Crew Rescued in UAE
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targeted multiple tankers in the Strait of Hormuz while Indian officials rescued 22 crew members from a vessel off Ras Al Khaimah.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) navy reported multiple maritime incidents in the Strait of Hormuz, claiming a supertanker suffered a massive explosion and fire after hitting naval mines while using an unauthorized route. The IRGC stated the vessel had disabled its navigation and GPS systems while traveling through a high-risk area. Additionally, the IRGC claimed it hit the liquefied petroleum gas carrier NV Sunshine on Friday for using an illegal route, causing a fire in the ship's engine room and propulsion system.
In a separate incident, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations reported that a tanker in the Gulf of Oman was struck by an unknown projectile on its port side, resulting in a fire. The crew of that vessel was reported safe.
Meanwhile, the Consulate General of India in Dubai confirmed the rescue of 22 Indian crew members from the crude oil tanker MT Gem No. 2. The vessel was involved in an accident off the coast of Ras Al Khaimah, but officials announced that all crew members are safe.
