Frontier Airlines to Introduce First-Class Seats Next Year

William Augustus Franke, chairman of Frontier Airlines, announced the budget carrier will introduce first-class seats to its Airbus fleet next year. This move represents a significant shift from the ultra-low-cost model Franke pioneered, which previously excluded premium amenities to keep fares low.

The decision follows rising maintenance costs, increased pilot salaries, and aggressive low-cost pricing strategies from major competitors like United and Delta. To further improve traveler comfort and drive revenue, the airline is also implementing SpaceX's Starlink Wi-Fi.

Franke stated that while price remains the primary driver for younger and middle-class flyers, the business model must evolve to compete with mature U.S. airlines. He noted that such adjustments might not be necessary in emerging markets. CEO Jimmy Dempsey added that these changes place the airline on a trajectory to return to sustainable profitability.
