FSSAI Forces Six Food Companies to Remove Misleading Claims
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India forced six food companies to withdraw misleading 100 percent purity and natural claims from their products.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) forced six food business operators to withdraw misleading 100 percent claims from their product labels, websites, and advertisements. The regulatory intervention targeted companies for violating the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations, 2018, which prohibit absolute terms that create false consumer impressions.
Among the companies taking corrective action were Amway India, which removed 100 percent Pure Coconut Oil claims, and Emami and Apis India, which withdrew similar claims regarding their honey products. Masterchow Foods removed 100 percent Natural labels from its Ramen Noodles, while Bonn Biscuits removed 100 percent claims from website advertisements for Jeera Bite Biscuits.
Juza Foods, a baby food manufacturer, removed 100 percent Vegan claims and temporarily closed its e-commerce platform to update its labels. The FSSAI stated that absolute terms like 100 percent and unqualified descriptors such as Natural mislead consumers about the actual composition of food products.
