India Solar Module Manufacturing Capacity Reaches 210 GW

India's cumulative solar module manufacturing capacity grew to approximately 210 GW and solar cell capacity reached around 27 GW as of December 2025. According to a report by the Mercom Capital Group, the country added 119 GW of module capacity and over 9 GW of cell capacity during 2025. This expansion was driven by the Government of India's PM Surya Ghar program and the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers domestic cell mandate.

Gujarat has emerged as the primary production hub, accounting for 45% of both module and cell production. Despite this growth, India remains reliant on imports, bringing in 99 GW of modules and cells in 2025, with China serving as the dominant supplier of cells. The United States acted as the primary export destination, receiving 96.8% of India's module exports.

Raj Prabhu, CEO of Mercom Capital Group, stated that the market is ripe for consolidation. He noted that larger, integrated manufacturers are gaining market share over smaller facilities because of rising capital requirements and shifts in technology demand. Additionally, JMK Research reported that India's solar module capacity grew nearly 14-fold between 2020 and 2025.
