Google and Range Media Partners Launch 100 Zeros
Google and Range Media Partners launched 100 Zeros to integrate technology into entertainment and promote optimistic narratives about artificial intelligence in film and television.
Google and Range Media Partners have launched 100 Zeros, a partnership designed to integrate Google's technology into movies, television, and emerging entertainment formats. The venture seeks to counter dystopian portrayals of technology in Hollywood by promoting more authentic and optimistic narratives, such as the short film Sweetwater, which presents AI as a source of comfort.
As part of the initiative, 100 Zeros will release a slate of AI-produced microdramas on the Google TV app in December, including a reality show titled Dateable. The partnership is also experimenting with augmented reality through Android XR and funding films that depict hopeful futures via the Future Vision XPrize.
While the venture provides Range Media Partners' clients with advanced technical tools, it has faced criticism from some artists. Actress Kyra Sedgwick described the effort as self-serving, suggesting the partnership serves as a mechanism for Google to influence storytelling and product placement.
