Edwin Sifuna Launches Linda Mwananchi Movement to Unite Opposition

Edwin Sifuna launched the Linda Mwananchi Movement in Nairobi and Kwale, urging opposition leaders to unite behind one candidate to challenge President William Ruto in 2027.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna launched the Linda Mwananchi Movement (LLM) in Nairobi, appointing interim officials from the Orange Democratic Movement and the Democratic Action Party-Kenya. The launch was marked by tension when Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka was booed by supporters who chanted for Sifuna to lead the opposition. Musyoka cautioned that Sifuna cannot be declared a presidential candidate until formal party processes conclude on November 13, though he pledged to support a unified flagbearer to unseat President William Ruto.

Following the launch, Sifuna led a grassroots mobilization tour through Kwale County, opening a new county office in Samburu, Kinango, and Ukunda. During these rallies, Sifuna criticized President Ruto for failing to protect the Constitution and alleged government plots to plunder mineral resources at Mrima Hill. He warned that internal divisions within the opposition would secure Ruto a second term in the 2027 General Election.

Concurrent efforts for unity emerged at an Orange Democratic Movement rally in Nairobi. Embakasi East MP Babu Owino urged Sifuna, Musyoka, Rigathi Gachagua, and Fred Matiang’i to reach a consensus on a single challenger. While Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya specifically endorsed Sifuna as the best candidate, he also cautioned that political divisions must not be allowed to sabotage the movement's progress.
