Florida Unemployment Rate Drops to 4.7 Percent in June
Florida's unemployment rate fell to 4.7 percent in June, marking the first decline since 2024 and adding 11,100 new positions.
The United States Department of Commerce reported that Florida's unemployment rate decreased to 4.7 percent in June. This represents the first decline in the state's jobless rate since the end of 2024, dropping from the 4.8 percent recorded in the previous two months.
Florida added 11,100 new positions between May and June, with growth primarily occurring in the health care, transportation, warehousing, hotel, and restaurant sectors. Despite this monthly improvement, the state's jobless rate remains 0.9 percentage points higher than it was one year ago, with 525,000 residents currently qualified as out-of-work.
Regional disparities persist across the state. The Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach area maintains the lowest unemployment rate at 3.9 percent, while the Wildwood region, which includes The Villages, reported the highest rate at 7.8 percent. Overall, Florida's rate remains 0.5 percentage points above the national average of 4.2 percent.
