Chief Minister Vijay Opens Perambur Office Amid Horse Trading Allegations

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay inaugurated a new MLA office and civic services in Perambur while facing opposition claims of political horse trading.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay conducted his first official visit to the Perambur constituency on Monday, July 14, 2026. During the visit, he inaugurated a renovated MLA office in Vyasarpadi’s Sharma Nagar, featuring a modern control room and an integrated e-service centre. As part of the launch, Vijay introduced the Jana Sevana Vedhi mobile application for tracking civic grievances, mandating that officials act on complaints within three days.

Vijay's itinerary included the distribution of land ownership pattas and electronic ration cards at a shop in Mahakavi Bharathi Nagar, as well as an inspection of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation’s electric bus depot. Following the inspection, he ordered the procurement of air-conditioned low-floor electric buses. During the event, the Chief Minister announced state honours for the final rites of Poomani, a Sahitya Akademi Award-winning writer born Poolithurai Manickavasagam, praising his literary contribution to Tamil culture.

Parallel to these developments, the opposition Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam filed complaints with Governor Rajendra Arlekar and the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption. The party alleged that Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam engaged in horse trading by inducing AIADMK legislators to defect. Former minister M R Vijayabaskar denied these claims, asserting that he joined the ruling party of his own free will due to dissatisfaction with the AIADMK leadership.
