Turkey Joins Saudi-Led Red Sea Military Coalition

The Government of Turkey will sign a charter in Saudi Arabia on Friday to formally join a Saudi-led military coalition dedicated to securing the Red Sea. The coalition aims to counter threats to shipping in the strategic waterway, specifically targeting attacks by the Houthis to ensure freedom of navigation in the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

This formal commitment follows a series of diplomatic and military engagements throughout July 2026. The Turkish Defence Ministry coordinated a technical meeting on July 28 and a gathering of military chiefs in Riyadh on July 30 to finalize the partnership.

Turkey previously joined 13 other nations in a statement of support for the proposed Multinational Maritime Defense Alliance. The upcoming signing marks the transition from general support to a formal commitment now that the coalition's organizational structure and charter are finalized.
