Starbucks Increases Star Requirements for Rewards Program

Starbucks Corporation is increasing the number of Stars required to redeem items in its loyalty scheme effective September 3, 2026. The company notified members via email on August 6, detailing higher thresholds for several popular categories.

Handcrafted beverages will see a 20 percent increase, rising from 500 to 600 Stars. Filter coffee, Americanos, and hot teas will increase from 130 to 150 Stars, while selected bakery items will rise from 300 to 350 Stars. Selected merchandise will also increase from 1,000 to 1,150 Stars.

Despite these higher redemption costs, the company confirmed that the earn rate will remain at 10 Stars for every £1 spent and the Gold Member level threshold will not change. Customers must spend more to obtain the same free items unless they utilize existing Star balances before the September deadline.
