Pauline Hanson Defends Podcast Interview With Far-Right Tommy Robinson

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson faced criticism after appearing on a podcast with activist Tommy Robinson to discuss migration and NDIS fraud claims.

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson appeared on a podcast hosted by British far-right activist Tommy Robinson during a visit to the United Kingdom. During the interview, Hanson attributed Australia's current migration issues to the 1973 removal of the White Australia policy and claimed that migrants primarily arrive to access the welfare system. She specifically alleged that individuals from Muslim communities are prominently involved in defrauding the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), stating that the taxpayer provides for them.

Health Minister Mark Butler dismissed these allegations, stating that no such data exists and that culturally and linguistically diverse Australians are actually under-represented on the scheme. Butler further criticized the association, describing Robinson as a convicted criminal. Senator Sarah Hanson-Young of the Greens condemned the appearance, calling Hanson the most un-Australian politician in parliament.

Beyond migration, Hanson criticized COVID-19 vaccines and mandates. She also discussed the future of One Nation, identifying her daughter, Lee, as a potential future leader. While the interview was reportedly facilitated by Channel Seven for its Spotlight program, the network only confirmed paying for some production costs. Hanson maintained she would not apologize for the meeting, while MP Barnaby Joyce defended the trip as a response to the fractious nature of English society.
