Burlington Candidates File for Municipal and School Board Elections

Burlington is preparing for municipal elections on October 26, with candidates filing for city council and Halton District School Board trustee positions. In the race for the Ward 1 city council seat, incumbent Kelvin Galbraith faces challengers Cheryl Hurst, James Kerr, and Robert Radway. Galbraith is campaigning on infrastructure and highway improvements, while his opponents are prioritizing accessibility, financial accountability, and constituent transparency.

The open Ward 2 council seat has attracted four candidates: Masha Brar, Sean Campbell, Jeremy Gaetan, and Gary Carr. Carr, the current chair of Halton Region, is leveraging his regional and federal experience to promote low taxes and safety. First-time candidates Brar and Campbell are focusing on budget audits, supportive housing, and taxpayer accountability.

Simultaneously, the Halton District School Board trustee elections see a mix of contested and uncontested seats. Incumbent Xin Yi Zhang is running for re-election in Wards 3 and 6 against Sukhwinder Singh. The Ward 4 seat, vacated by Margo Horne, is being contested by Dania Thurman, Ahmed Zaki, and Ryan Marlow. Bika Diakoloukas and board chair Amy Collard have already secured their respective seats for Wards 1 and 2 and Ward 5 through acclamation.
