Travel Giants Integrate AI to Automate Global Payment Systems
Agoda and eDreams ODIGEO partnered with Checkout.com and Visa to implement AI-driven payment optimization and autonomous agentic commerce for global travel bookings.
Major travel platforms are integrating artificial intelligence to automate and optimize the payment process for global consumers and suppliers. Agoda, a subsidiary of Booking Holdings Inc., partnered with Checkout.com on July 3, 2026, to enhance payment processing for its network of over six million properties. This collaboration utilizes an AI tool called Intelligent Acceptance to reduce false declines and improve approval rates through real-time network data. The two companies are also implementing virtual card issuing to ensure zero-downtime payments to travel suppliers across multi-currency flows.
Simultaneously, eDreams ODIGEO partnered with Visa to enable agentic commerce, allowing AI agents to execute travel bookings directly on brands including eDreams, Opodo, GO Voyages, and Travellink. This system uses Visa's Trusted Agent Protocol and Agentic Directory to verify agents, while Visa Payment Passkeys secure the authorization through customer banks. This shift moves AI from a search-assistance tool to a transactional engine capable of completing full purchases within user-defined parameters.
To support this transition, eDreams ODIGEO is employing its own proprietary AI platform and over 100 Model Context Protocols to integrate its booking engine into wider global ecosystems, enabling horizontal AI assistants to facilitate real-world bookings.
