Unknown Projectile Strikes Tanker Off Coast of Oman
An unknown projectile struck a tanker near the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, causing a fire but leaving all crew members safe.
An unknown projectile struck a tanker on Wednesday off the coast of Oman, near the town of Bukha and the Strait of Hormuz. The attack ignited a fire on the vessel, which was at anchor approximately 11 nautical miles from shore at the time of the incident.
United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations reported that all crew members are safe and that there is no current environmental impact. The strike occurs within the context of a regional conflict that began in February with U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran.
Since the start of the conflict, the Government of Iran has targeted ships passing through the strait without authorization. In response, the Government of the United States has maintained a blockade on Iranian ports and increased military escorts for vessels crossing the waterway.
