Piyush Goyal Projects $200 Billion in Data Center Investments
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal promotes India as the premier global destination for data centers to help reach a $30 trillion economy by 2047.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal positioned India as the world's best location for data centers, projecting the industry could attract at least $200 billion in investments. Following a roundtable with hyperscalers and international investors, Goyal stated that data centers, artificial intelligence, and semiconductors are essential components for India to achieve a $30 trillion economy by 2047. The government intends to streamline regulations and improve the ease of doing business to secure these investments.
Goyal also highlighted India's 7.8 percent GDP growth for the April-June 2026 quarter. He defended these figures against the Indian National Congress, which dismissed the data as statistical gymnastics. Goyal attributed the growth to the capability and hard work of the Indian people despite global volatility and ongoing wars.
In a separate diplomatic engagement, Goyal met with German Federal Minister Carsten Schneider to discuss collaboration on renewable energy and the circular economy.
