The disruption drove fuel costs higher across the Midwest. Regular fuel in Illinois reached $4.53 per gallon by Tuesday, while diesel prices hit record regional highs. Prices for diesel reached $6.26 in Michigan and $6.22 in both Illinois and Indiana. Analysts suggest diesel prices in Great Lakes states could approach $7 per gallon in the coming week.
In a separate industry development, BP is currently engaged in a labor dispute with United Steelworkers Local 7-1 at its refinery in Whiting, Indiana. BP maintains that this specific dispute is not impacting its current operations.
