Union Home Minister Amit Shah presented the President's Colour, the highest honor for a military or police unit, to the Puducherry Police on Sunday, August 10, 2026. The ceremony took place at the Puducherry Armed Police Ground in Gorimedu. President Droupadi Murmu had previously announced the conferment of the honor on May 8 in recognition of the force's exceptional service, discipline, and distinguished achievements.

During the event, Shah praised the force of fewer than 5,000 personnel for their bravery and dedication, specifically citing their performance during the COVID-19 pandemic. He highlighted the central government's financial commitment to the union territory's infrastructure and social schemes, as well as the transition to the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita to ensure justice for citizens. Shah stated that the new criminal laws are based on the pillars of technology, timeline, and trust.

Lieutenant Governor Kuniyil Kailashnathan announced the approved establishment of a second India Reserve Battalion unit to induct 1,000 youth. Chief Minister N Rangasamy credited the honor to the integrity and discipline of the police personnel, while Director General of Police Shalini Singh emphasized the mission to ensure Puducherry remains a secure environment for residents and tourists.
