INEC Publishes Preliminary Voter Register for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission published a preliminary voter register of 103 million citizens and detailed technical upgrades for the 2027 general elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the preliminary voter register for the 2027 general elections on a dedicated online portal. The register currently contains over 103 million registered citizens. As of October 30, 2026, the commission has received more than 4,800 claims and approximately 600 objections regarding the data. INEC intends to resolve these discrepancies before certifying the final register on December 15, 2026.

During a meeting with an ECOWAS Pre-Election Fact-Finding Mission, INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan detailed the upcoming election timeline. Presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, followed by Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections on February 6, 2027.

To prevent the technical glitches that occurred during the 2023 cycle, the commission will deploy the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) alongside a new electronic verification platform called eEC8A. A nationwide mock accreditation is planned for November to test the result transmission systems.
