Allied Peoples Movement Sweeps Bauchi Local Government Elections
The Allied Peoples Movement won all 20 chairmanship seats in Bauchi State elections, with Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed swearing in the winners on Tuesday.
The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) won all 20 chairmanship seats and 319 of 323 councillorship seats in the Bauchi State local government elections held on Monday, August 11, 2026. The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) declared the results after voting and verification, noting that the remaining four councillor seats went to the Social Democratic Party, the National Rescue Movement, the Zenith Labour Party, and the Young Progressive Party.
Several opposition parties, including the African Democratic Congress and the New Nigeria Peoples Party, boycotted the polls, alleging that the process violated the 2026 Bauchi State Electoral Act. BASIEC Chairperson Hajiya Jummai S. Abubakar maintained that the elections were conducted independently and in accordance with the law.
On Tuesday, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed swore in the 20 APM chairpersons at the Government House Banquet Hall. During the ceremony, Mohammed warned the new officials against the misappropriation of funds, stating that financial autonomy removes excuses for poor performance. He directed the leaders to prioritize security, education, healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure. The Governor also appointed and swore in six Special Advisers to support his administration's objectives.
