Centre for a Better Britain Proposes Abolishing State Pension

The Centre for a Better Britain calls for the abolition of the state pension and 75 billion pounds in tax cuts in a new report.

The Centre for a Better Britain, a thinktank led by former Reform UK official Jonathan Brown, has released a 183-page report titled Boosting Britain that proposes the abolition of the state pension and 75 billion pounds in tax cuts.

The report suggests replacing the state pension with lifetime investment accounts, which would include a 1,000 pound starter pack for newborns, while maintaining a means-tested safety net for the poorest. To fund these changes and prevent market instability, the thinktank advocates for spending reductions, including the closure of public pension plans for teachers and civil servants.

Proposed tax reforms include the elimination of inheritance tax, capital gains tax, stamp duty, digital service tax, and air passenger duty. The report also recommends reducing corporation tax from 25 percent to 15 percent over eight years. Additionally, the group proposes breaking up the Treasury to establish a Department for Economic Growth and linking Bank of England executive pay to inflation targets.
