Karnataka High Court Stays Probe Into Doctor's Assault Case

The Karnataka High Court stayed further investigation into criminal cases against Dr. Nagendrappa, a Bengaluru physician and social worker who was arrested for allegedly assaulting a couple identified as illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. Justice M. Nagaprasanna criticized the Bengaluru police for registering a counter FIR only 15 minutes after the doctor had alerted authorities to the couple's illegal status.

The court observed that police registered the assault case without evidence of injury, while the complainants, Nasreena and Bilal, were subsequently detained by the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer. Justice Nagaprasanna condemned the state's perceived support for illegal immigrants, stating such actions jeopardize national security and could cause such populations to multiply. The court directed the Foreigners Regional Registration Office to provide instructions on the immigrants' deportation and adjourned the hearing to August 6.

Karnataka BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra condemned the FIR, accusing the state government of minority appeasement and a traitorous mindset. Vijayendra claimed the administration is attempting to silence voices concerned with national security and criticized Home Minister Priyank Kharge for prioritizing political statements over law and order.
