Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, traveled to Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on October 21 to participate in the World Summit on Investing in Children’s Well-being and the Second International Congress on Childhood Cancer. The summit, initiated by Uzbekistan and co-organized by the World Bank, the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and the UN Special Representative on Violence Against Children, brought together participants from over 100 countries. First Lady of Uzbekistan Ziroat Mirziyoyeva welcomed the attendees to the event, which is scheduled to conclude with the adoption of the Samarkand Declaration to promote sustainable development for future generations.

During her visit, Aliyeva also inspected local social services, including a state multidisciplinary specialized preschool and the Imkon rehabilitation center. She toured aqua therapy and sensory integration spaces and received briefings on the medical and educational services provided to children with special needs. The Imkon centers offer free corrective classes and family support, reporting nearly 1.5 million services provided between 2019 and 2025.
