Two VLCCs Exit Strait of Hormuz Amid Shipping Threats
Two large crude carriers transported oil out of the Strait of Hormuz as maritime traffic remains sparse amid ongoing threats from Iran and Houthi allies.
Two very large crude carriers, the Spain B and the Noble, exited the Strait of Hormuz on Friday. Each vessel carried approximately 2 million barrels of crude oil. The Spain B transported oil from Saudi Arabia's Ras Tanura port and is currently anchored off Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, while the Noble is transporting Iraqi Basrah crude to China.
Overall traffic in the strait remains sparse, with four commodities vessels transiting on Friday compared to three on Thursday. In a separate development, PetroChina provisionally chartered the VLCC Jamaica Prosperity for a shipment from Iraq's Basrah port to China scheduled for early August.
These movements occur during a period of heightened risk to regional navigation. Iran and Houthi allies have targeted tankers in both the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb. Additionally, a recent drone strike on gas vessels in Damietta, Egypt, has raised concerns regarding potential risks to the Suez Canal.
