Boeing Wins $20 Billion Navy F/A-XX Fighter Contract
Boeing secured a $20 billion contract to build the U.S. Navy's next-generation F/A-XX fighter aircraft, becoming the sole provider of sixth-generation jets for the U.S. military.
The Pentagon awarded Boeing a contract worth more than $20 billion to develop the F/A-XX, the United States Navy's next-generation fighter aircraft. This sixth-generation jet is designed to replace the Super Hornet fleet and work alongside the F-35 by combining advanced sensors, range, and lethality with both manned and unmanned capabilities.
Boeing won the competition by defeating Northrop Grumman, while Lockheed Martin had been eliminated in an earlier stage. This award follows Boeing's previous selection to produce the Air Force's F-47 fighter, making the company the only supplier of sixth-generation fighter aircraft for the United States military.
Chief of Naval Operations Daryl Caudle advocated for the project to ensure the Navy maintains a modern air wing. Former Chief of Naval Operations Lisa Franchetti previously detailed the aircraft's requirements for enhanced sensors and operational range.
