Bernie Sanders Report Alleges Rising Drug Prices Despite TrumpRx

Senator Bernie Sanders, ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, released a report on April 16, 2026, alleging that pharmaceutical companies continued to raise prescription drug prices despite agreements with the Trump administration. The analysis found that 15 of 16 drugmakers involved in the TrumpRx project increased prices for 337 drugs since January 21, 2025, including treatments for cancer and multiple sclerosis.

Sanders claimed the TrumpRx online platform fails to provide meaningful savings and may steer patients toward more expensive options. To address these costs, he introduced legislation that would mandate drug prices be lowered to the average of five peer countries, including Canada and the United Kingdom.

White House spokesperson Kush Desai dismissed the findings, arguing that the report focuses on list prices rather than the actual costs paid by patients. The release of the report coincided with scheduled testimonies by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. regarding the administration's budget and healthcare priorities.
