Crypto Industry Spends $189 Million to Influence Midterm Elections

The cryptocurrency industry spent nearly $200 million in the current election cycle to push for federal digital asset legislation and broader adoption.

The cryptocurrency industry has invested $189 million into the November midterm elections to shape federal oversight of digital assets, according to a June report from the watchdog group Public Citizen. The majority of this funding has been channeled through Fairshake, a super PAC that raised over $136 million to support pro-crypto candidates. These financial efforts aim to establish a stronger legal footing for the sector and promote broader adoption through legislative frameworks.

The industry is currently lobbying the Senate to pass the Clarity Act before the August recess, building on the passage of the Genius Act last year. Funding has been distributed across several high-profile congressional candidates. Representative Barry Moore received the highest amount of support at $9.43 million. Other significant recipients include Representative Andy Barr, Representative Christian Menefee, Florida Representative Randy Fine, and Georgia state representative Jasmine Clark.

Supporters of the movement emphasize the potential for digital assets to provide financial tools for unbanked communities and create innovation jobs within the United States. Groups like Stand With Crypto, backed by Coinbase, continue to track the positions of elected officials to ensure alignment with industry goals.
