Abdul El-Sayed Defends Past Obama Criticisms Before Campaign Rally
Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed addressed past op-eds calling Barack Obama a failure ahead of a joint campaign rally in Detroit.
Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed defended past criticisms of former President Barack Obama during a Sunday interview with Meet the Press. El-Sayed addressed a 2012 Huffington Post op-ed in which he called Obama a "failure" and accused him of violating civil liberties and perpetuating war.
El-Sayed attributed the harsh rhetoric to being "younger" and "angry about circumstances," while stating he now appreciates Obama's legacy and the inspiration he provided.
Despite the previous friction, Barack Obama is scheduled to campaign for El-Sayed in Detroit on October 24. The rally will also feature Michigan's Democratic nominee for governor, Jocelyn Benson, and other state candidates.
