Samsung Launches One UI 9 Based on Android 17

Samsung began the stable rollout of One UI 9, based on Android 17, on September 16, 2026. The update first reached beta participants in South Korea via a 650 MB over-the-air update before expanding to other selective markets, including India. The initial release targets the Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra, as well as the Galaxy Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra, and Z Flip8.

The software follows a five-month beta period that included seven major updates. New features center on Galaxy AI, including My FanCam for automatic subject tracking and reframing in video, and Now Brief, which utilizes generative AI for creating and editing cards. The update also enhances the Interpreter tool with Thread View and improves Creative Studio, Document Scan, and the Voice recorder.

Security and system updates include the introduction of Security Brief, Privacy Alerts, and Scam Detection to identify malware and privacy risks. Users will also find a new Warranty and Care settings menu and redesigned brightness and volume sliders in the Quick Panel. Samsung intends to expand the update to older devices, including the Galaxy S23 through S25 series and Z Fold and Flip models from versions 5 through 7, as well as various Galaxy Tab S series tablets.
