Monzo Restores Services After Technical Outage Hits Payments
Monzo restored all banking services after a technical failure blocked card payments and transfers for its 16 million global customers.
Monzo restored all banking services on August 19 after a technical failure blocked users from making card payments or bank transfers. The outage affected the British digital bank's global base of over 16 million personal and business customers.
To mitigate the disruption, the company activated Monzo Stand-in, an independent backup service designed to allow customers to withdraw cash, freeze cards, and manage transfers. Despite this measure, some users reported that the backup system failed to function as expected, leaving them unable to access their funds.
Monzo later confirmed that all systems were fully operational and apologized for the inconvenience, stating, "We're sorry for any inconvenience and thank customers for their patience."
